"Providing food, clothing and dignity to our brothers and sisters in need."
Mobile Loaves & Fishes, Inc. (MLF) is a social outreach ministry to the homeless and indigent working poor. we accomplish this mission through the use of a catering truck and the dedication of countless volunteers that go out on the streets of San Antonio providing meals to our brothers and sisters in need.
How MLF began...
Six parishioners of Saint John Neumann Catholic Church in Austin, Texas, founded Mobile Loaves & Fishes in the summer of 1998. The idea germinated by a conversation one of the founders had with a fellow parishioner about a ministry in Corpus Christi, Texas, that provides hot coffee and blankets to the homeless on extremely cold nights. Immediately upon hearing of this ministry, the concept of utilizing a catering truck to fulfill this mission in Austin entered the founder's mind. After sharing this idea with four of the original founders, it became evident that this concept was developing some momentum. Both prayers and cash were being offered to support this idea. The sixth founder, formerly homeless himself, became their guide to the streets. They began first by going out on the streets in their own vehicles distributing 75 sack lunches to test their resolve in fulfilling God's call. The first trip was in September 1998 and it is in September of each year that MLF celebrates their anniversary. For more information go to www.mlfnow.org
How MLF came to San Antonio...
On December 7, 2003, a shiny new catering truck was gifted to the parish of St. Mark the Evangelist by Alan Graham, ther president of Mobile Loaves and Fishes. The truck was blessed by the Bishop, the St. Mark community responded by donations, and over 500 volunteers signed up to be a part of the ministry. January 12, 2004 - the first official truck run went out in San Antonio. In January 2007, three years after receiving our truck, the St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church community contributed $1,000 to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. These funds helped that parish in starting their own MLF ministry.
