At the beginning of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Parish in 1976, an active women’s organization was formed, known as the Altar Society. Committees over the years have fulfilled the objectives of the society “to assist the Pastor and Parish as occasions arose for Liturgical worship.” Monthly meetings are planned to promote the spiritual growth and fellowship among the members, and to develop religious, civic and educational enrichment of the members of the parish.

Bake sales, fashion shows and luncheons are among the many ways the women have raised money to meet their goals.

After 30 years this group changed their name and is now known as the “Women’s Guild.” All women of the parish are invited to join in the rewarding work of the guild and experience and enjoy the fruits of the organization’s labors. The current active committees are:

  • Flowers – helping provide and care for flowers and plants for the art and environment of parish liturgies.
  • Sanctuary – helping provide and launder items for the altars, priest and altar servers.
  • Telephone – notifying members about the guild’s functions.
  • Programs – planning programs for each meeting.
  • Scholarship – administering scholarships to graduating High School Senior(s) who are members of the parish.
  • Hospitality – welcoming new members to the guild and providing refreshments for scheduled meetings.
  • Newsletter and Publicity – organizing, preparing and mailing the monthly newsletter to all members and publishing upcoming events.
  • Sewing – making baptismal stoles and mending vestments and altar server robes as needed.
