Middle School Faith Formation

Our Faith Formation classes are designed to offer students insights into their own faith life, to show them that being Catholic is a full time commitment, and to help them live out Christian values in their everyday lives. As Catholics, we baptized our children into a faith-filled community and made a solemn promise to raise them in the Catholic Church. It is the responsibility of the parents to see that their children, not only attend weekly Mass, but that they also receive an education in the Catholic Faith. However, Faith Formation goes beyond those two requirements. Faith Formation is an intentional action that is integrated into the life of a family to include development of the whole person.

Middle School Goals

Provide a positive atmosphere where our youth become increasingly aware of God's love through instruction and experiences.
Have a safe place for the youth to discuss his or her Faith questions
Foster a desire to respond to God's love by sharing their gifts through service
Give the youth role models of practicing Catholic adults to share their wisdom
Provide spiritual experience of Jesus through Liturgy, and the Word of God, in a deep profound way.
Provide a positive experience of the Catholic Church.
Assist teens in gaining understanding and appreciation of Catholic Church Teachings and Beliefs.
Incorporate the Catholic Church’s Vision of Social Justice and Peace.
Develop an understanding in youth that they are a vital and visual presence within the parish.
To create a desire to attend mass: to become excited about the…”GOOD NEWS”.
Encourage and support all youth to make conscious life choices on the basis of Gospel values.

THE EDGE

The EDGE is a Catholic Centered Youth Ministry and Catechesis aimed at young adolescents. It is designed to meet their Educational, Spiritual, Emotional, and Social Needs. As part of the St. Mark Mission Statement “To Spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to all God’s People by Word and Action”, Middle School Youth are encouraged to bring their friends with a signed permission slip from their parents. They are encouraged to commit to the scheduled classes, take part in their small groups, and come with a healthy attitude, and open heart.

This year we will be studying the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and great Saints. A number of Issue Nights and Social Nights have also been planned as well. It will be a great year to be in The EDGE.

B-2-L (Born to Lead)

Born to Lead is for 7th and 8th grade Catholic Young Leaders. B-2-L is for teens, interested in being a leader through service and example in their schools, community, and here at St. Marks. We usually meet the Wednesday before The EDGE at 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm in New Legacy Youth Office. Teens help plan upcoming Middle School Events, and especially help on EDGE Sundays.

This year we will be focusing on an up close look at the Gospel of Mark and the Leading Like Jesus Did.
We pray, eat and play together.
