Welcome to Assembly 2022: Blessed, Broken, and Shared

We continue to remember and celebrate the journey to be the Church which journeys together. The call of the Gospel and Vatican Council II for ‘Full, Active and Conscious Participation in the Eucharistic Liturgy,” especially the Sunday feast, is our vision. The spiritual and theological truth that the Eucharistic Liturgy, the Mass, is the source and summit of our spiritual life nourishes our journey.

From Christ Jesus, present for us in every Mass, flows the invitation and the mandatum to serve all especially those most in need. To these ends, the Archbishop has called all in the Archdiocese of San Antonio to walk together in Eucharistic Renewal as part of the  Synodal Process “Living as a Synodal Church.” On this subject, there will be synodal encounters beginning with our clergy but continuing throughout our parishes and other groups in the Archdiocese. Living as a Synodal Church, we are invited to be priestly and Eucharistic people in relationship and listening disposition to one another; and to embrace a revolution of love for God’s people. Eucharistic Renewal calls us to listen to one another’s experience of the celebration of Eucharist and continue the dialogue to discern God’s will as to how we might improve our experience of Jesus Christ in the Mass.

The Holy Spirit has inspired the Universal Church to rediscover the gift of Synodality. It is the blessing of walking together, listening to one another, and assembling again around the table of the Eucharist following the coronavirus pandemic. Our conversations and Synodal listening sessions have allowed us to reach a major milestone, yet we are far from concluding this process. We want to encourage all to keep the momentum alive and continue the Synodal conversation in your movements, groups, parishes, and institutions this time on the topic of primary importance for our identity as Catholics:

THE REAL PRESENCE OF JESUS CHRIST ESPECIALLY AS WE ENCOUNTER HIM IN THE SUNDAY MASS CELEBRATION.
